Most people know that in my spare time, I like to watch films. Ones considered to be poor others strong. Whatever the genre I will give it a watch. Since I was 14 I became really intrigued by not what sits on the screen but what happens before. For four year after that I studied film and Media and during the four year period I had to write a number of screenplays which I really love doing.
As a huge fan of the US ABC show Desperate Housewives I decided to write a short scene to appear at the beginning of the episode.
Desperate Housewives creative interpretation screenplay.
EXT WISTERIA LANE – MORNING
The street is lively. The sun is shining and the children playing on the street are SCREAMING. Mothers walk along the way and WAVE to surrounding children and their parents. A TAXI drives along the road and pulls up outside of Lynette’s house.

EXT OUTSIDE LYNETTES HOME
She WALKS towards the front door, she turns and admires the street. A child RUNS past

She smiles and lifts her hand giving a gentle wave as the child runs away. She walks to the door and slowly turns the handle.
INT LYNETTE’S HOME
Lynette slowly walks towards the stairs, she looks up as she hears chatter from
PENNY and FRIEND upstairs. She gently smiles and closes her eyes. Penny and her friend run down the stairs
PENNY
Hey mom, we’re heading to the movies. See ya later ok?
Lynette nods slowly her mouth opens but no words escape. Penny exits through the front door.

For Lynette Scarvo today she discovered what the possum once took from her had moved back into Wisteria Lane.
She reaches her arms out and falls towards the stair banister. She turns and slowly slides down the banister resting her head along it as she gets lower and sits on the bottom step. She GASPS. TOM enters and STARES at her in shock. She sobs and looks up at Tom.
TOM
Lynette?
He walks towards her and sits directly beside her. He rests his hand on top of her hand as TEARS start to fall down his face.
MARY ALICE (VO)
For one family on Wisteria Lane, life will never be the same again.
RUN OPENING CREDITS.
Another one I just found. Again a brief from Bruce but this time we were given a phrase and we had to apologise for it. Mine - ‘Dogs spelling their own behinds’.
Inspired by Tina Fey’s way with words.
Ever heard the phrase – ‘That bitch, thinks her own shit doesn’t smell’? Well, there’s a comment aimed at my mom. Ever been the kid who sits in the playground an hour after school ends to have your mom pull up with a wealthy, partially drunk man in the passenger seat ? Nope, you’re not missing out on much, except the rhythmic banging of the headboard and the constant clanging of the soon to be replaced mattress. The song Stacey’s mom or stiflers mom comes to mind, except I’m not Stifler and my mom is completely aware of the ‘MILF’ and ‘cougar’ comments. If she could kiss her own arse, I’m sure she would and she’d swear blind that she tastes of candy.
Most moms apologise for their child’s ill behaviour. Whether it be the child running around screaming in a restaurant or having a tantrum in supermarket or the embarrassment of their child being drove home by the police after being found vomiting in the centre of town after falling out of bar and landing in a destructive heap in the middle of the road. Well, the last one actually comes to mind. Not a past memory of my own, a past memory of my mothers, if she could actually remember any of her antics from that night. I am the one apologising. Apologising for my mother.
‘How do I look?’ she’d ask. ‘You look lovely mummy’ would reply a little voice sitting on the bed choking from the amount of hair spray intoxicating the room. She knew how good she looked; she see’s herself as the Cindy Crawford of the town.
One of you men come to think of it is the reason I’m sitting here today. An illegitimate baby. Brian, Barry, Andy, John, Marcus, Ray and 70 more names have been introduced as daddy, mostly inebriated men covered in overstated aftershave smelling of strong cigars and excess cheap perfume possibly picked up from the women at a strip joint or even my mom but hey the difference between mom and the strippers isn’t exactly huge, is it?
Everyone is below her. What she doesn’t know is people despise mom, not because of her looks and her excessive wardrobe and money but because actually, she’s pretty shit to be honest, as a mom. On behalf of all kids like me, I apologise to those of you, who do feel beneath the women like my mom, who feel the need to change themselves to be like them. While you do this their heads gets bigger seriously.
Most importantly Apologies to all of the unlucky bastards that are yet to meet my mother. She won’t call you, she won’t know your name, she certainly won’t engage in conversation with you and she probably won’t recall anything from the night you spend with her. No disrespect I’m sure you were marvellous but at the end of the day, sir, you’ll just be another number added to that tiny black book sitting on the dressing table.
Just found this short story I wrote in first year. Bruce gave us an image and we had to write about how it made us feel. My image was of some assorted words wrapped up with cling film. The picture made me feel as if I was unable to speak. The words I wanted to voice were wrapped up making it impossible for me to talk. So I wrote a short story about a boy called Edward……
As free as a bird. The wind was smooth and the clouds were embracing the late afternoon sky. A boy. No older than 20 sits on the ground, looking directly forward at the children running around the park enjoying life’s great adventures. The college students playing football with their class friends and an old couple enjoying a picnic together in the shade. The boy’s face was plain. His eyes as blue as sapphires. Stern but pleasant. A thick line of stubble curves around the rim of his strict jaw line. No sign of anger or hate for what he was witnessing. A keen people watcher and as silent as a small mouse.
On intervals he would look to the sky, feeling the heat on his pale skin and watching the swaying trees create distorted shadows on his face. His eyes would close as he felt the soft breeze against the back of his neck and the brush of his soft hair gently being pushed to the side by the soothing zephyr.
A ball rolls towards him; he stops the ball with his hands, he stands up and smiles at the small boy yards in front of him. He looks down at the ball and looks back at the child raising his eyebrows to indicate he will lightly kick it back to him. The child nods and the ball is rolled to him, the young boy smiles profoundly up at him and rejoin’s his small group of friends with the ball. The boy sits back down on the floor and continues watching life’s spectacular show in front of him.
A huge smile appears on his face while watching the group of college students having a game of football which had resulted in a huge water fight involving many of the gathering audience of children and parents. To the dismay of the old couple enjoying a relaxing picnic beside the pitch which was now a war zone filled with water and laughter. To the boy’s delight he watches the couple running away frowning brushing off the excess water which had caught them.
As the sun starts to fade, the show in front of him starts to abate. He realises it is time to go home. Along with the children and the students, the boy leaves the park. As he exits the park in front of the crowd a voice from behind the boy says ‘you should join us some time?’ the boy continues walking. The stranger makes a disdainful remark and heads towards his car parked up at the front of the park. Unbeknown to him that the boy, Edward, cannot hear, he cannot speak, he can only see and feel. Edward will return to the park tomorrow, like every other day rain or shine to enjoy the small delight of life, as he knows it.
If you know me as a friend or as an acquaintance I would have probably mensioned my niece Matilda Rose Newman.
I don’t really write alot about her because I possibly end up crying or going on forever but I must say she is the most perfect little person I have ever had the pleasure of being around. Yes slightly biased but I could find other people that would agree with me.
So this post isn’t strictly work, but my sincere words and I managed to take the photograph so technically there was a tiny amount of skill (getting her to sit still deserves slight credit) to this shot….. But one thing is for sure, she inspires me so much more than any other living person I know.
Letterpress fun.
Julie gave us a chance to visit Rupert once again and have some fun with letter pressing. We had to pick a word to press and here I chose ‘mdnewm’ simply because it is my user for everything. Rupert didn’t seem keen. Oops.
My finished result looked good in the studio but then the rain poured. win.

Brief- Make people listen to the radio player at work.
Copywriter - Megan Newman
SOUND: Music - Prokofiev – Dance of the Knights plays over the top of the opening sequence. Alan Sugar’s voice appears as he repeats ‘you’re fired’ a number of times.
The music fades.
MVO OF Mark Halliley: After a hard day at work, Lord Sugar went home had a cup of tea and sat down at his computer. After searching the internet for an hour he received a tweet from Nick who had earlier received an internet link from Margaret. The tweet read – ‘listen to the radio player at work #musicmakesushappy’.
The following day Lord Sugar listened to the radio player as Nick suggested before entering the boardroom…..
SOUND: ‘The Apprentice’ tense music starts. The sound of faint whistling and footsteps can be heard. The whistled tune is to the Madonna tune ‘Holiday’. Music and whistling fades.
VO Alan Sugar – Today’s a good day, I’m feeling good. The sun is bright, the birds are singing, You are Hired.
Music stops.
MVO. We all know music makes us happy.
Ask Alan.
BRIEF - Create an app to make going to a gallery a better experience.
Art Direction - Lora Wilson, Daniel Lo, Sarah Knight
Copywriter - Megan Newman
Gallery – The Tate Modern.
Whilst deciding on what type of an app to create, we came up with two insights - People enjoy drawing whilst viewing the art in the Tate Modern. People don’t always know what they want to see when visiting the Tate Modern. The choice can often be over whelming.
With this we created two apps.
APP1
From our own experience whilst visiting different art galleries we found that people enjoy drawing whilst viewing the art. Sometimes this can be because the use of a camera is prohibited or for their own enjoyment. We felt that for people that aren’t strong drawers or wanted a fun interactive task whilst viewing the different exhibits we came up with the app titled – Recreate the Tate.
The App uses augmented reality and allows individuals to draw on top of the art which opens up exciting activities for people of all ages! It allows the viewers to deface the pieces of art, make them more interesting, make them look completely different, making the pieces their own. Allowing them to have fun! When the individual has finished they can submit and join the augmented reality gallery and they can view other people’s art work. The gallery will be a censored gallery to avoid unwanted images.

After researching what makes us feel good we came up with three main things
With these thoughts we have created the sharing bottle. Where two cups will cover the bottle and the person who buys the drink then has the opportunity to share it with a special someone or a stranger in the park during their lunch break. Sharing is caring.
We created an app which allows people to have conversations while talking into the paper cup.
We asked a number of people what they did or use to do with empty paper cups and a lot of people said they loved to make string telephones with either a cup or a tin. We felt that adding this element is fun and allows people to continue conversations over the telephone.
Teaming with ‘Skype’ could be beneficial however there are other social networking sites that allow people to call others for no cost.
With this App we believe the feel good vibe would continue through the power of conversation and friendship.
Pop up tent - Meeting new people is always an adventure. Whether your experience be good or bad. We wanted to create a pop up cafe where people over the age of 16 could come in, sit and have a chat with someone completely new while enjoying a shared bottle of a Feel Good drink of your choice. During your experience you get to chat with the person opposite you about anything. After your 5 minutes are up photographs are optional and they will be uploaded on to Facebook to enable you to tag the photograph and stay in touch with your new friend.
The Rules.
For our poster ad, we decided to have an interactive poster consisting of a live twitter feed where people are able to tweet their feel good day and tweet about their sharing experience.
We decided to go for a hand drawn approach. We wanted to capture the fun element and give the cups their own persona.
Share your feel good day @feelgooddrinks.
